What Unchained Home actually does.
Unchained Home ("we," "us," or "our") is a data liberation service operated in Utah, USA. We export your Google Photos library and deliver it to you on a physical drive ("Unchained Archive") or pre-loaded onto a configured home server ("Unchained Home").
By using our service, you ("you" or "customer") agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
Questions: hello@unchainedhome.com
You grant access. We act on your behalf.
To perform your transfer, you will authorize our application through Google's official OAuth 2.0 system. By authorizing access, you confirm:
- You are the owner of the account being authorized, or have explicit permission from the account owner to authorize on their behalf
- You have the legal right to export and possess the content in your library
- You understand that authorization grants us read-only access to your library for the sole purpose of completing your transfer
- You can revoke authorization at any time through your Google account settings
We never see your Google password. Authorization flows through Google's official system. Our access is permanently revoked and deleted the moment your order ships.
How orders work and what you're paying for.
Placing an Order
Orders are initiated through our contact form. We confirm your service tier and total price by email before collecting payment. Your order is not confirmed until you receive written confirmation from us.
Pricing
All prices are listed at unchainedhome.com in USD and include USPS Priority Mail shipping within the contiguous United States. Hardware is included in Unchained Home pricing. Drives are included in Archive pricing.
Payment
Full payment is collected before we begin your transfer. We accept major credit cards and Bitcoin. Initiating payment constitutes your agreement to these terms.
Cancellations & Refunds
What ships, when, and what happens if it doesn't arrive.
Most orders ship within 7 days of authorization. You receive a USPS tracking number by email when your order ships. We ship to addresses within the contiguous United States via USPS Priority Mail.
Damaged or Defective Hardware
- Contact us within 14 days of delivery
- We will redo the transfer and ship a replacement at no charge
- Because your original data stays on Google throughout, nothing is ever at risk of being permanently lost
Lost Shipments
If your shipment is confirmed lost by USPS, we will redo the transfer and ship a replacement at no charge after USPS confirms the loss.
Your photos are yours. We just move them.
We do not own, claim, or retain any rights to your photos, videos, or any other content in your library. Everything we access is accessed solely to fulfill your transfer order.
Your original library remains completely untouched on Google throughout the process. We copy — we never delete. What you do with your cloud account after receiving your order is entirely your choice.
See our Privacy Policy for full details on how we handle your data during the transfer process.
We recommend keeping your cloud account active until you've verified your transfer is complete and established a backup routine for your local hardware.
What's included in every Home order.
What We Provide
- Preconfigured home server hardware as specified in your tier (Standard 2TB, Plus 4TB, or Pro 4TB)
- Photo library app pre-installed and configured
- Your complete photo library migrated and loaded
- Setup documentation and email support for initial setup questions for 30 days after delivery
What We Don't Provide
- Ongoing technical support beyond initial setup
- Hardware warranty beyond the manufacturer warranty (manufacturer's warranty applies directly)
- Support for modifications you make to the device after delivery
- Liability for data loss resulting from hardware failure after delivery — we strongly recommend maintaining your own backup strategy
What you agree not to do.
- Authorize us to access an account you do not own or have permission to access
- Use our service to export content that infringes on the rights of others
- Misrepresent the size or nature of your library to obtain incorrect pricing
- Attempt to circumvent, reverse engineer, or interfere with our service or systems
We reserve the right to refuse or cancel any order we believe violates these terms, with a full refund.
The honest limits of what we're responsible for.
We take every reasonable precaution to ensure your transfer completes successfully. However:
- We are not liable for data loss resulting from factors outside our control, including Google API changes, service outages, or USPS shipping damage beyond our replacement policy
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages of any kind
- Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for that order
- If an API change prevents us from completing your transfer after payment, we will issue a full refund
We carry cyber liability insurance. These limitations reflect the realistic scope of a small service — not an attempt to avoid accountability for things within our control.
Utah law. Plain and simple.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Utah. We'd genuinely prefer to resolve any issue directly by email before it gets anywhere near a courtroom — contact us first and we'll make it right.
If we change anything, we'll tell you.
Material changes will be posted here with an updated effective date and communicated to active customers by email. Continued use of our service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
